Review of Matang Mangrove Forest Reserve

Our guide Khairul was very knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the firefly and river cruise / fish farm boat tour. Our group of 11 (ages 8-72 yrs) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the wonderful hospitality he showed throughout the guided mangrove tour. Will definitely be back.

Stumbled upon this private tour service on Google Map while searching for activities to do in Taiping for a family trip. In contact personally with Mr. Khairul Salleh. Since it was a private tour service, time was flexible - which is a plus for a crowd with kids, trying to get ready on time!

Mr. Khairul Salleh is very friendly yet professional, and very knowledgeable in regards to Kuala Sepetang and its neighbourhood.

We took 2 trip packages: daytime trip around Kuala Sepetang & night time trip for the fireflies.

Daytime Kuala Sepetang trip:

90min boat trip along the river. We were shown around looking at the fishing industry, the mangrove forest & the coal factory. We landed at the 'Shell Beach' where the kids managed to collect various seashells washed ashore by the local cockle & shellfish industries byproducts. Then we stopped at the fish farm looking at tilapias, horseshoe crabs, pufferfish & mudskippers. Info sharing session by Mr. Khairul Salleh was very informative & interactive. I was very happy that my siblings & the kids were very happy getting involved throughout the trip. We ended the trip watching eagles feeding on the river. Magnificent! Oh, almost forgot the mangrove sapling release into the river with hope of everlasting green ecosystem for the future to enjoy & cherish!

Night time firefly trip:

Another memorable trip. One hour session watching fireflies amongst the mangrove trees flashing lights synchronously along the river. We were all in awe by Mr. Khairul Salleh's vast knowledge of the fireflies & the mangrove habitat, and reminded us how crucial & important keeping earth clean & green is to the sustainability of the ecosystem.

All in all, we really enjoyed it & definitely would recommend it! Keep it up, En. Khairul!!!

4.00 pm Tour to the fisherman village. Guest will know about their houses, boats and their way of life. Stop over a fish farm to feed fish, puffer fish, horse shoe crab and archer fish.

Birds watching and Eagle Sighting 

5.00 pm Tour to the mangrove forest. Guest will know about their special adaptation to the salty water and mud. 

On how they protect the coast line and their economic value. Virgin jungle reserve, Birds, mangroves forest management. Birds watching, dolphins (on luck), eagles sighting. 

6.00 pm Dinner at Kuala Sepetang Xin Seafood Restaurant @ Tepi Sungai Seafood Restaurant at own expense.

7.30 pm Depart for fireflies.

8.00 pm Enjoy the fascinating fireflies display.

9.00 pm  End of trip.

The animals ranging from the amazing eagles, stocks, swallow, sea otters, puffle fishes, monitor lizards, guard dogs at fishing villages, leeches... I can feel the balanced ecosystem.
We are all connected...
Wow..... I listed down all the adventures... as much as I could...
As a helper to the group teacher and the 15 kids and a following parent, I was benefited by your passion in sharing all the educational tips and experience myself and I believed the teacher and kids too.
