KHAIRUL SALLEH (tengah) memberi penerangan kepada pelancong mengenai industri ikan sangkar di Kuala Sepetang.

BUKIT GANTANG – Kuala Sepetang atau dahulunya le­bih dikenali sebagai Port Weld kini menjadi antara destinasi ekopelancongan popular di Pe­rak yang menyediakan lawatan pendidikan melalui pelayaran menaiki bot selama 90 minit.

Pengusaha bot merangkap pemandu pelancong, Khairul Salleh Ahmad, 58, berkata, terdapat 14 destinasi menarik di sekitar Kuala Sepetang dan 13 destinasi daripadanya memerlukan penggunaan bot untuk dijelajah.

“Pelayaran menggunakan bot selama 90 minit ini bukan sekadar membawa para pelancong menikmati pemandangan di sekitar perairan Kuala Sepetang, malah turut diisi dengan pelbagai informasi pendidikan.

“Antara lokasi yang dibawa ialah ke tempat Pusat Eko Pelajaran Hutan Paya Laut Matang, tempat pemerhatian burung, kilang arang, industri penternakan kerang dan lawatan sangkar ikan,” katanya kepada Kosmo!.

Menurutnya, kebanyakan pelancong yang datang bercuti bersama keluarga mereka di Kuala Sepetang tidak akan melepaskan peluang untuk menaiki bot bagi menyaksikan sendiri keindahan pemandangan yang terdapat di sekitar kawasan tersebut.

“Sepanjang pelayaran itu, pelancong akan dibawa untuk melihat helang merah, bangau, pekaka dan hidupan marin.

“Pelancong juga akan diberi penerangan mengenai jenis-jenis kayu bakau di kawasan ini serta kepentingan pokok kayu bakau yang perlu dipelihara,” katanya.

Seorang pelancong, Aishah Harben, 77, berkata, segala penjelasan dan informasi yang diberikan pemandu pelancong dalam sesi pelayaran merupakan pe­ngalaman amat berharga.

Katanya, dia sudah melawat beberapa lokasi hutan paya bakau di dalam dan luar negara, namun yang membezakan tempat lain dan Kuala Sepetang adalah pengisian informasi yang diberikan pemandu pelancong.

“Saya bersama rakan-rakan amat berpuas hati bercuti di tempat ini kerana bukan sahaja disajikan dengan pemandangan menarik sepanjang pelayaran, malah dikenalkan dengan pelbagai spesies pokok kayu bakau.

“Ia termasuklah ditunjukkan bagaimana sebenarnya benih bakau ini boleh membiak dan dibiakkan. Ia adalah sesuatu yang amat menarik pada panda­ngan saya,” ujarnya.

Vivian Ooi, 69, berkata, percutianya ke Kuala Sepetang bersama sahabat handainya merupakan satu pengalaman yang amat berharga buat mereka.

“Bukan sahaja dapat menyaksikan kehidupan liar marin, tetapi juga dibawa untuk menyaksikan sendiri tempat penternakan ikan sangkar serta tempat pembuatan kayu arang.

“Selain itu, kami diberi informasi tentang kehidupan pokok kayu bakau iaitu tentang keluasan hutannya, penggunaan serta turut ditunjukkan bunga dan benih pokok kayu bakau yang jarang diketahui umum,” katanya. -KOSMO! ONLINE

Our guide Khairul was very knowledgeable and entertaining throughout the firefly and river cruise / fish farm boat tour. Our group of 11 (ages 8-72 yrs) thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and the wonderful hospitality he showed throughout the guided mangrove tour. Will definitely be back.

Stumbled upon this private tour service on Google Map while searching for activities to do in Taiping for a family trip. In contact personally with Mr. Khairul Salleh. Since it was a private tour service, time was flexible - which is a plus for a crowd with kids, trying to get ready on time!

Mr. Khairul Salleh is very friendly yet professional, and very knowledgeable in regards to Kuala Sepetang and its neighbourhood.

We took 2 trip packages: daytime trip around Kuala Sepetang & night time trip for the fireflies.

Daytime Kuala Sepetang trip:

90min boat trip along the river. We were shown around looking at the fishing industry, the mangrove forest & the coal factory. We landed at the 'Shell Beach' where the kids managed to collect various seashells washed ashore by the local cockle & shellfish industries byproducts. Then we stopped at the fish farm looking at tilapias, horseshoe crabs, pufferfish & mudskippers. Info sharing session by Mr. Khairul Salleh was very informative & interactive. I was very happy that my siblings & the kids were very happy getting involved throughout the trip. We ended the trip watching eagles feeding on the river. Magnificent! Oh, almost forgot the mangrove sapling release into the river with hope of everlasting green ecosystem for the future to enjoy & cherish!

Night time firefly trip:

Another memorable trip. One hour session watching fireflies amongst the mangrove trees flashing lights synchronously along the river. We were all in awe by Mr. Khairul Salleh's vast knowledge of the fireflies & the mangrove habitat, and reminded us how crucial & important keeping earth clean & green is to the sustainability of the ecosystem.

All in all, we really enjoyed it & definitely would recommend it! Keep it up, En. Khairul!!!

Great guide, great tour

We had a great tour with En Khairul as our guide. He went out of his way to show and explain the history and natural wonders of the mangroves. The trip started right on time, and he was very friendly and personable throughout. If we were in Taiping for longer, I would definitely plan to go on another one of his tours. He is great with kids, helping to interest them in the plants and animals of this region.
